Conversations With : Donna

You met our Buyers a little while back.  Well, let's continue the conversation!  Every so often we will touch base with Ann, Brent, Donna and Jennifer, giving you the opportunity to learn their point of view on products, trends, and all that goes in to being a buyer for the Museum Shop.
You wear many hats, buying for Jewelry, Textiles and Home Furnishings. Do you feel like there is a common thread between them?

There are many commonalities between the three categories that I focus on when buying because they help me to conceptualize merchandising themes and incorporate current trends. How and where a product is constructed, materials used to make each piece, color, prints and patterns are all threads that help build a strong, cohesive and visually aesthetic assortment.

In your opinion, what are the must-have's in each department and why?

You just returned from sourcing trips to New York, Frankfurt and Paris- what are some emerging categories or techniques that you saw?

Exotic colors and patterns, menswear inspired prints, metal mixing and neon on everything from candlestick holders and vases to glass platters and lighting to jewelry and textiles. It was fresh and very exciting.

Which items in the Spring Collection exemplify these trends?

What is your favorite Spring flower?

My favorite spring flower is a lilac.

Thank you Donna!
