Meet Us : Brent

Brent : Buyer/Product Developer Books & Media

How would you describe yourself?
Uncomplicated.  In business- dedicated to the service to our patrons.  In private life- all for myself.

What is your favorite book?
Currently- two books tied in first place by one author, China Mieville- The City & the City, or Perdido Street Station.  There's always, towering above almost everything else, Simenon & Dickens.

If you weren't a buyer, what would you be?
I am... an artist in my off hours.  Or rather, I make pictures.  Other than that, I'd like trying to be a cat.  A day would do....

Do you have a hidden talent?
I play harmonica- but not as accomplished as my brother.  I also cannibalize discarded furniture for the wood- to be used in my vast hacienda.

What is your favorite piece at the Art Institute of Chicago?
A practice/ceremonial shield from Renaissance Italy- belonged to a regiment called the Satyrs of the Moon.

What are your top 10 favorite items from the current assortment?
In books;
    Imran Qureshi
    Forrest Bess: Seeing Things Invisible
    Hilma af Klint: A Pioneer of Abstraction
    Jan Svankmajer: Dimensions of Dialogue: Between Film & Fine Art
    Lina Bo Bardi
