3 in 1: Contemporary Explorations in Architecture and Design

Photo: Brigitte Lacombe

Fashion designer Issey Miyake is included in the new exhibition 3 in 1: Contemporary Explorations in Architecture and Design, focusing on three innovators of fashion, architecture, and product design.

Miyake is known for his designs that juxtapose creativity, functionality, and mathematics.  Along with his research and development team Reality Lab., Miyake developed the clothing line 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE.  The origami-like clothes start folded flat and blossom into three dimensional garments with the use of a mathematical equation.  This same principle was applied to lighting with the IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE line, a collaboration with Artemide that is a perfect blend of mathematics, light, and shadow.

The three lights below are not only featured in this exhibition and the museum's permanent collection, but are available for purchase now in the Museum Shop.  Come see this functional artwork, as well as 3 in 1: Contemporary Explorations in Architecture and Design, running September 28 through January 5.
